Weekly questions week 6
1.Who are you designing for?
People who are "allergic" to abstract art, have a strong opinion about why they don’t like it and like to be creative themselves

2. What is their relationship to the collection?
They live in the city of Rotterdam. Although they are interested in art they do not like art-pieces that are too abstract for their understanding

3. Which content are you ‘interfacing’?
The art from BKOR that is found in Oud-Charlois. We chose a neighborhood of Rotterdam so people might feel more connected to the content when they recognize it.

4. How does the ‘interface’ affect or influence the ‘user’?
By talking just as negatively about the abstract art as the user group itself we hope to get an opposite effect called the “judo technique”. Headlines scream negativity about the abstract art while the actual article is slowly talking to get more positive about the art.

5. What type of interaction is fitting for this?
By delivering a newspaper in a familiar surrounding (their home, library etc) people slowly get introduced to abstract art in a more personal way. The types of interaction are reading, interacting with the assignments, opening the newspaper, sending the postcards.

6. What type of medium is fitting for this?
Newspaper, because it gives a traditional and urging feeling because newspapers are all about the latest news. A newspaper is delivered in a environment where people can take the time to read it.

7. Which visual language (including typography) can be useful or fitting for this?
Newspaper design, screaming headlines, Rotterdam green, typeface of Rotterdam Centraal, justified running text.

8. What are you trying to accomplish through the interface you want to design?
Be less annoyed by the abstract art in their neighborhood, while also give information about the art that they appreciate already
1.Who are you designing for?
People who are "allergic" to abstract art. They annoy themselves about the abstract art in oud-charlois because they live in this neighborhood. Because they are creative themselves, as a professional graphic designer or amateur nail art artist, they have a strong opinion about the art displayed. Our users are between the 40 and 80 years old. They saw the neighborhood change during their lives and might be less tolerant to change then the younger citizens of Oud-Charlois who know no better then the abstract art piece already standing there.

2. What is their relationship to the collection?
They live in the Rotterdam neighborhood Oud-Charlois. As Oud-charlois has many art pieces, among them many abstract pieces, they see the content every day in their daily lives.

3. Which content are you ‘interfacing’?
The art from BKOR that is found in Oud-Charlois. We chose a neighborhood of Rotterdam so people feel more connected to the content when they recognize it from their own environment. We tell the users more about the story of the art that can be found in the neighborhood. This information is based on the information found on BKOR.

4. How does the ‘interface’ affect or influence the ‘user’?
By talking just as negatively about the abstract art as the user group itself we hope to get an opposite effect called the “judo technique”. Headlines scream negativity about the abstract art while the actual article is slowly talking positive about the abstract art showcased in the city. In the hope the users will tolerate the art more.

5. What type of interaction is fitting for this?
By delivering a newspaper in a familiar surrounding (their home, library etc) people slowly get introduced to abstract art in a more personal way. The types of interaction are reading, interacting with the creative pages, opening the newspaper, sending the postcards.

6. What type of medium is fitting for this?
Newspaper, because it gives a traditional and urging feeling because newspapers are all about the latest news. A newspaper is delivered in an environment where people can take the time to read it.

7. Which visual language (including typography) can be useful or fitting for this?
Newspaper design, think about justified running text, banners of the top of the page, screaming headlines and a feeling of urgency to read. The running text will be slightly bigger than the traditional 8 points as our user group is getting older and don't got young eyes anymore. In our design also the writing is of importance because we use in our text the "rotterdam accent" to make the user feel more related to the content. We use the Rotterdam green of the municipality and as logo we used the typeface of Rotterdam central all to amplify the feeling of proud Rotterdam citizen. Some typography seems childish, this childish typeface amplifies the feeling of making jokes about abstract art while also displaying the creative side of the newspaper. Thereby this childish typeface is a nice contradict to the formal TIMES that is used for the headlines.

8. What are you trying to accomplish through the interface you want to design?
That the user is less annoyed by the abstract art in their neighborhood, while also give information about the traditional art that they appreciate already.
